It Ain't Over Yet...

Down 3-1, game 5 in Los Angeles tonight, morale low, the Lakers are in a win or go home situation. After a demoralizing loss at home to Boston in game 4, the Lakers need to decide whether they want to begin their summer, or show how good they truly are. If they choose option one, well, there is always next year, but why wait, when they still can this year. However, if they choose option two, they will have to decide if they want to play intense and productive for 48 minutes. They need to do whatever they can to put game 4's loss out of their minds, so they can focus on winning these next three games. Whether it be drinking till they drop, smoking Coach Phil's peace pipe and sining kumbaya, or watching "300", they need to do something to get fired up and blow Boston away tonight. In the 6 games Boston and Los Angeles have played this year, the Lakers have seen everything Boston has to offer, while Boston hasn't seen any of the Lakers weapons all on their A game. If Pau can just play as half as intense as KG has been playing the Lakers will win tonight. If Kobe explodes for the best game he's had since his 49 point outburst against Denver in game 2 of the playoffs. If Lamar can play great for a full game. If the Lakers bench can play like they have all season long. If the Lakers play defense. If the Lakers can do one or two of those things, Boston will not see what's coming tonight. That's all they have to do, and this series, which seems to be locked up by Boston, will be a real series again. Although the chips are down, and their backs are against the wall, NEVER, count out a team with Kobe Bryant on it. The Lakes have a shot, it's going to be tough, it's going to defy all odds, but it's possible. Good luck my Lakers, and please, PUH-LEASE, try and make the beginning of my summer something to be happy about!

Celtics Only Win Half the Battle

Down 22 with 7:40 left to go in the game, most teams would have given up, most coaches would have pulled their stars, most fans would have gone to bed mad already, however, that cannot be said for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. To the Lakers, 7:40 is just as good as a full quarter. Despite the inexcusable reffing during tonight's match, the Lakers played hard, scored baskets, and a decent number of important stops. Although they didn't get the win, they won half that battle, by stealing the momentum from Boston. Boston may think they have the momentum, being up 2-0, and keeping the Lakers from winning what would have been a heart-breaker for the Celtics, however, the fact that the Lakers were able to overcome the reffing and cut they Celtics 22 point, 4th quarter lead, down to 2 with a minute or so remaining, shows how great this team is, and it gives them the fire, the momentum, to make this series one to remember. Remember folks, L.A. is the only undefeated team at home in the playoffs thus far. With the momentum the Lakes received from their comeback tonight, and their toughness inside Staples Center, they should have no problem going up 3-2 on the Celtics. KG and PP34, get ready to dance.

Breakdown of the Lakers and Celtics; Position by Position

With the NBA Finals just a few days away (exactly 66 hours and 28 minutes away, not that I'm counting), the debate continues, who is truly the better team. Well we will not know until 4 games have been one by a single team, but what we can figure out, based on statistics, my ridiculous knowledge for the NBA, and some opinions, we can figure out who has the better team, position by position. Giving us something to think about, and debate over, while those fans like me, sit and do absolutely nothing until Thursday night at around 6pm...

Point Guard: Derek Fisher or Rajon Rondo: Right now, Rondo is the better player. At 6-1 in shoes, Rondo averages 4.2 rebounds per game, and shoots an outstanding percentage from the field (49.2%), although that is primarily due to the fact that he has no jump shot. However, his athleticism and defensive play make him the better of the two point guards in this series. I know, as a Laker fan, Derek Fisher has been great for us in all his years here. However, Fisher is 33, and although he's still playing some of the best basketball of his career, once a player hits 30, they tend to lose a step. Rondo is simply too athletic for fisher, and will cause problems, not major ones, but problems nonetheless that could impact the way Phil uses his guard rotation.

Edge: Rajon Rondo, Celtics

Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant or Ray Allen: I'm not even going to waste time explaining this one. So the edge goes to the MVP, that's all that needs to be said here.

Small Forward: Vladamir Radmonovic or Paul Pierce: PP is the obvious choice here, but if Radmonovic devotes this entire series to just playing good D on Pierce (which he can do), I have a feeling that Pierce and the Celtics nation might be surprised of the series they get from their longtime star. Although I give the edge to Pierce here, Radmonovic's D on Paul could be a key factor to the Lakers winning this series.

Power Forward: Lamar Odom or Kevin Garnett: This match up will easily be the most entertaining out of the 5 possible match ups. Both players are extremely long and athletic. Although KG plays with more intensity than any one in the league (yes, even my MVP, Kobe Bryant), if Odom can match even half of Garnett's intensity (which is quite hard to do since KG plays like his kid's lives are at stake), the Lake Show win the series. Odom has shown this year and during the playoffs, that he can be the great player he was always suppose to be. If he gets 17/12/4 for the series, it's pretty much over. However, advantage here goes to KG and his defensive player of the year trophy.

Center: Pau Gasol or Kendrick Perkins: Great offense meets great defense. It's like the Patriots playing themselves. Gasol's finesse and offensive game are top notch, however, he sometimes plays too soft, which makes me worry about this series the most. If Pau plays to soft, and KG plays like KG, the Lakers will have a hard time winning this series. Pau needs to play tough and be a dominate post presence for the Lakers to win. If he averages about 18/11/5, and plays semi-acceptable defense, the Lakers will be en route to their 15th championship (and yes Bill Simmons, I count the Minneapolis days! http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=20902) Perkins is great on defense, and is extremely strong, but Pau's offensive game is to advanced for him, and he will have trouble stopping Pau's quick offensive move set.

Bench: Okay, the Lakers have a bench of 4 solid players (Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Luke Walton, and Ronny Turiaf. You could say 5 if you count Trevor Ariza) that all play consistent rotation minutes, and impact the outcomes of Laker games greatly. Whereas Boston has about 2 bench players they play consistently (James Posey and PJ Brown) who have any effect on their wins. However, when Doc Rivers plays guys like Leon Powe, Glen Davis, and Eddie House, the Celtics play much better. Sam Cassell is garbage now, and should retire to the sidelines, so I know he won't help them. But, the Lakers bench is great all around, and if they play like they have all season, the Lakers should win the series easily.

Edge: Lakers Bench

Head Coach: Phil Jackson or Doc Rivers:
Easy one here, 8 rings in 9 finals apperances, or 0 rings in 0 finals appearances? I'm going to go out on a VERY thin limb and say, I'd much rather have the 8 than the 0, but that's just me. Phil, in my opinion is the second best coach in the league (behind Gregg Poppovich, whom I believe is one of the top 3 greatest coaches of all time), and he knows how to win. The Detroit series, wasn't entirely his fault. The Lakers were outplayed, and the injury bug that caught Karl Malone (god did he look terrible in a Lakers uni), didn't help their cause either. Overall, Phil is hands down the winner in this match up, and unless Red Auerbach comes back from the dead, the Lakers have the clear cut advantage here.

So based on the match ups, it looks like the winner goes to, THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS! And trust me, this was not a homer pick. I gave the Celts advantages in their rightfully deserving spots. What do you want me to say that Kendrick Perkins is a better player than Pau, umm, no thank you, I'd rather not. But the facts are there. By match ups, the Lakers win this series. Hopefully it plays out the way the match ups say they will, and not the way WhatIfSports predicts it will. (http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/default.asp?article=20080531)

The Big Dance: It's Finally Here

It's been eight long, exciting, surprising months, but the dance is finally here, and it's better than ever. We've got renewed rivalries, a new MVP, a battle to prove doubters wrong, a fight to the end. Whatever happens, it we be great. It's the NBA Finals, where truly amazing happens. Kobe Bryant is searching for his first ring without Shaq, and Kevin Garnett is going for his first. Both teams have improved drastically over the past year, and if anyone told me during May of last year that Boston and the Lakers would be in the finals come June, I would check them into the Betty Ford Clinic, because they would have to of been doing some serious drugs to think that. However, roster renovations and major player improvement fueled these teams throughout 82 games, and 3 rounds of playoff series, and now they are here, on the biggest stage in the world, to show who is the world's champions. Will it be MVP Kobe Bryant (GOD I LOVE SAYING THAT) and his new and improved Lake Show Squad? Or will it be KG and co.? Only time will tell. We have at least 4 games ahead of us, and either team is good enough to win 4, but only one team will come out on top, and be crowned number one. It's the NBA Finals, where champions happen.

Upcoming!
Look for post game analysis for every finals game.
Also, once I can get one down I'm happy with, a mock draft version 1.0 will be posted. I would think after doing mock drafts since November, I would come up with one I like, but it seems every day, with every draft camp rumor that comes about, my picks seem to change. Hopefully I can get the mock draft up by this coming weekend.

Quick Thoughts on the Conference Finals

As it has come down to the final four, and 4 games have been played so far in each round, here are my comments so far on the two current series.

Western Conference:

L.A. Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs (Lakers lead series 3-1):
After a gut-wrenching blowout in game 3, the Lakers bounced back for a close game 4 win, and look to close the series out on Wednesday. Commenting on the controversial non-call at the end of tonights game 4 victory for the Lakers, I will state as a known die-hard Laker fan, that the play between Barry and Fisher WAS a foul. However, it was NOT a shooting foul. So even if the foul was called, Barry only should receive two free throws. And being the great foul shooter Barry is, he probably would have tied the game up, either sending the game into OT, or having his and the rest of the Spurs nation's hearts crushed by a Laker buzzer beater. Also, in that situation, at the end of the game, fouls generally have to be quite hard to be called, otherwise, they will be viewed as fair game. Although this is not fair to the losing team, it is consistently not called by refs, and I don't think it will ever change. Well, thats my two-cents on the West Finals

Eastern Conference:

Boston Celtics vs Detroit Pistons (series tied 2-2):
There is no question that this series won't push as far as it can go. These teams are extremely equal, and will beat each other up to get to the finals, only to be demolished by whatever Western Conference team advances. I think that the injury to Piston point guard, Chauncey Billups, has so far, not affected the series to a large extent. However, if the Pistons had a healthy Chauncey Billups, I think the series would be over in six games rather than seven, allowing the Pistons to win on their home court, and have an extra days rest. McDyess' performance in game 4 was unreal (http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=280526008) and the Pistons will only build off of that energy in game 5. I think Detroit ends up winning the series, just because of sheer experience. Boston has a ton of accumulated experience among it's players, but Detroit's team has experience together, as one team. I'm looking forward to the re-match of the NBA Finals from four years ago.

Well, that's what I have to say about the Conference Finals. Mock Draft coming soon! I promise! Also look for more posts than normal during the weeks of the NBA Finals.

Beasley or Rose?

As the lottery approaches (it's tomorrow in case you didn't know), I decided to break down, for each team, who they should take (between Beasley and Rose), if they ended up with the number one pick. We'll start with the league-worst Miami Heat...

Miami: This franchise is about to go through drastic rebuilding process, and will have to complete it quickly in order to please their star guard Dwyane Wade, who could bolt in 2010/2011 for a chance to play with a better team and a brighter future. However, if Miami manages to escape karma, and win the top pick, Kansas State hybrid forward Michael Beasley is the best choice for a quicker improvement. While Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade would make the best, most explosive back court in the league, a trio of Wade, Marion, and Beasley would be much more effective in the long run. So I give the edge to Beasley for Miami.

Seattle: Although most Seattle fans are drooling at the idea of Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant, two potential 25 point per game scorers, playing along side each other, the presence of Derrick Rose would benefit this team to a much greater extent. Seattle has a nice future ahead of them, with a core of Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Chris Wilcox, but they don't have a future point-man for their offense, which will hold them back for a while in this tough Western Conference. If Seattle ends up with Rose, Durant will easily become a top 3 scorer in the league, and will do so much more efficiently. Seattle has another pick later in the first round, and could possibly select Rose's Memphis Tiger's teammate, Chris Douglas-Roberts to fill in as shooting guard, and allow Kevin to move back to his natural SF position. So for this pick, I give the edge to Derrick Rose of Memphis.

Minnesota: It seems as though, Minnesota wants Randy Foye as their point guard of the future, but for the good of their team, drafting Derrick Rose would be much more beneficial to the games of Al Jefferson, Corey Brewer, and Randy Foye. However, I believe that if Minnesota were to land the number 1 pick, Michael Beasley would be in their future, and their future would be bright. Lately, I have been hearing many people say how the Wolves need a center, so Big Al can move back to PF, but I disagree, with how the league is changing into a more athletic league, and starting centers are become quicker and more agile, Al Jefferson should stay at center. So by drafting Beasley, Jefferson stays at center, and Beasley and Brewer, alongside Jefferson, create one of the best future front courts in the league. So I'm saying the Wolves take Beasley here.

Memphis: Although Derrick Rose was the hero for the city of Memphis this year, the Grizzlies already have their point guard of the future in Mike Conley Jr., and adding Rose would just be a waste of a pick, when they could fill their void at PF with Michael Beasley, who would, create one of the most athletic forward combos in the league, alongside Rudy Gay. So I give the obvious edge to Michael Beasley here.

New York: The Knicks, being in the situation they are now, could go either way with this pick. However, with the recent hiring of run n' gun head coach Mike D'Antoni, the only way the Knick's offense will be effective this year, is with a top notch point guard running the show. So unless the Knicks are able to pull of a deal for a Jose Calderon or a TJ Ford, Derrick Rose would be the much better choice. Not only would Derrick Rose make an immediate, positive, impact on this dysfunctional Knicks team, but he would be D'Antoni's New York Steve Nash, and would most likely end up being a top three point guard in the league some day. So D-Rose gets the edge in this pick.

L.A. Clippers: The Clippers are even more of a tossup if they get the first pick. They could go with Rose, and have a future core of Rose, Thornton, and Kaman, or they could draft Beasley, and create possibly one of the best future front courts in the league, with Thornton, Beasley, and Kaman. If they drafted Beasley, they could probably get a nice shooting guard or point guard in sign and trade deals including Corey Maggette and Elton Brand. However, if they draft Rose, they could keep Brand and have a great front court right now, and possibly make the playoffs after having two bad years after making the playoffs for the first time in god knows how long. But it seems like, for this young Clippers team, playing for the future is the best bet, and the amount the could get for Brand and Maggette while picking Beasley, would be greater than just taking Rose. So, Beasley gets the edge for this pick.

Milwaukee: Rumors are starting to surround around the Milwaukee Bucks, saying that the Bucks might entertain trading this years lottery pick for someone that could help them immediately. Now this might not be such a bad idea, since Milwaukee's last three draft picks have turned into Yi Jianlian, Andrew Bogut, and TJ Ford, who was later traded to Toronto for Charlie Villanueva, a small forward stuck in a power forward's body. Considering the Bucks passed up on Corey Brewer, Thaddeus Young, Chris Paul, and Deron Williams, guys who all would of filled voids at the time, and are either superstars in this league, or have very bright futures ahead of them in this league. Nevertheless, it is tough to tell whose going to be good, unless you have a top two pick, the draft is really a crap shoot. So best of luck to Milwaukee. If they do decide to draft, Beasley is the obvious choice here, as the Bucks are weak at the small forward position, and have a logjam at the point guard spot, with to formidable point men in Mo Williams and Ramon Sessions.

Charlotte: It's tough to know what the Charlotte Bobcats want out of this years draft. They can barely get their starting lineup healthy and/or situated. They could go small and have a lineup of Felton, Richardson, Morrison, Wallace, and Okafor, and draft a player to add depth to their bench, or they could go smart, send Morrison to the bench, and start Felton, Richardson, Wallace, and Okafor. Then they would draft a power forward, in this case, Beasley, and move Okafor to the center position, creating a very athletic starting five, and a very deep bench, hopefully paving the way for the franchises first playoff appearance, and many more after that. So I give the edge easily to Michael Beasley.

Chicago: Very tough decision here. Chicago is a very young team, that has very solid, very young players at virtually every position. However, Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley would certainly be upgrades over Kirk Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas. With the Bulls lack of interior scoring, Michael Beasley seems like he would help Chicago immediately, and by drafting him, it would allow Chicago to trade Tyrus Thomas or Drew Gooden to teams whose system they fit in better, and maybe get a better shooting guard or point guard in return if they thrown in Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon, or Larry Hughes. Rose would be a big help to this team, but Chicago needs interior scoring now, and Gooden, Thomas, and Joakim Noah aren't they guys that will bring that for Chicago.

New Jersey: If New Jersey gets the top pick, or any pick in the top 3 for that matter, it seems that, according to rumors, it will be sent, along with Richard Jefferson and a few other players to Denver for Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby. I think that if that is the case, I am basically drafting for Denver here, so I would pick Michael Beasley for Denver, because with the absence of Carmelo AND Camby, the Nuggets will need some inside offensive firepower, which Beasley can bring, while drafting Rose, will just create problems with Iverson in the back court. Iverson would have to go back to the shooting guard position, and probably wear down his body much quicker, instead of preserving his body by playing the point, and scoring less points night in and night out. So I go with Beasley here, for either team.

Indiana: This is an easy decision. The Pacers already have Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy, so adding Beasley would just bring in another combo forward for Indiana (who also has the 21 year old Shawne Williams on their roster in addition to Granger and Dunleavy). Also, the Pacers need help at the point guard, since Jamal Tinsley has proven to be inconsistent and injury prone, so drafting Rose would change the face of their entire franchise, and possibly push the Pacers back into the playoffs.

Sacramento: Like Minnesota and the Clippers, this decision is a coin toss. Although the Kings already have Beno Udrih as their point guard, Derrick Rose would be a great addition to the Kings, and give them a point guard who would be playing at the level of Chris Paul and Deron Williams in a year or so. However, Sacramento's power forward situation doesn't look to bright. They are currently going with Mikki Moore, who is a center at heart, Shelden Williams, who is a center in a power forward's body, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Kenny Thomas, who seem to be injured every other game. So with Sacramento's dire need of some dominate interior players, Michael Beasley looks to be the Kings first choice, if they are selecting #1 in June.

Portland: If Portland even finishes in the top 3 this year, I'm calling the NBA lottery fixed, because that would give the Blazers Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden, and a top three pick in this years draft, in a span of just 3 years. No way a team gets that lucky. However, if the balls decide to fall in Portland's favor, I see them knowing their decision by the end of the lottery, and going with the Memphis point guard, Derrick Rose. Alongside Roy, Rose and Roy would create possibly the best back court in the Western Conference, to go along with a top flight front court, and ensure the Blazers success for the next decade and a half. Drafting Beasley would be a mistake, giving the Blazers 3 inside scorers, most likely forcing them to trade at least one of them, when they could keep who they have now, and become one of the best teams in the west in 08-09 by drafting D-Rose.

Golden State: Drafting Rose would definitely give the Warriors something to fall back on in case Baron Davis decides to opt out this summer, but if he doesn't, it would be a wasted pick. By drafting Beasley, the Warriors fill a hole that has been empty since the days of Antwan Jamison. Beasley would become a leading scorer and rebounder for the Warriors, something they desperately need, and would thrive in Don Nelson's system, due to his amazing athletic ability. So for this pick, I give the easy nod to K-State hybrid forward, Michael Beasley.

Well, those are the 14 lotto teams. Best of luck to all of them (except for Miami, who deserves the 4th pick) in tonight's draft lottery. Check back soon for Playoff Reports, Mock Drafts, and other cool stuff.

Quick Thoughts on the Second Round Series

Last round we saw some surprises, with Atlanta pushing Boston to seven games, Dallas and Phoenix being knocked out in five games, and Philly putting up a gallant fight against Detroit. Can we expect some of the same this round? Here's why I have to say so far...

Western Conference:

1. Los Angeles Lakers vs 4. Utah Jazz: The Lakers are looking great, although they have allowed Utah to grab forty-one offensive rebounds in the first two games, with the positive energy coming from my boy Kobe Bryant winning his first MVP, this series looks to be another quickie for the Lake Show.

2. New Orleans Hornets vs 3. San Antonio Spurs: CP3 and Co. really surprised a lot of people by coming out and beating down on the defending champs in games one and two. However, San Antonio will pick up the poor play and will win games three and four, tying the series at two games a piece.

Eastern Conference:

1. Boston Celtics vs 4. Cleveland Cavaliers: I didn't think the Boston Celtics could disappoint their fans any more after letting Atlanta take them to seven games, but after game one of their second round series with Cleveland, it looks like they might not make it to the third round, let alone the NBA Finals. I don't know what happened to the team that won sixty-six games during the regular season, but they sure aren't playing right now.

2. Detroit Pistons vs 3. Orlando Magic: Basically, Orlando was cheated out of a win in game two, but the got revenge in game three, and some extra sweetener on the side, by getting a big win, and seeing Detroit lose Chauncey Billups for possibly the rest of the series. Although Billups will probably be back for game four, don't expect Orlando to take it easy on him. This series for sure goes to seven games.

Well, that's all I got for now. Although I am still giddy from Kobe's "celebration", I am tired, and I gotta get some sleep. Hoops.

Quick Thoughts on Each First Round Series

Eastern Conference:

Boston/Atlanta series: It seems that if Boston even lost one game in this series, it would sports greatest surprise. Mike Bibby needs to keep his mouth shut, he may be right, but it's not like Atlanta had any fans until halfway through the season.

Detroit/Philly series: Philly is looking good right now. I don't know why Detroit is struggling...This is their time to shine. Don't be surprised to see a Philly upset in this series. I'm starting to think that Philly PF, Reggie Evans, swings more to the right than to the left. I noticed he kept trying to slap Joe Crawford's(ref) ass on multiple occasions. There was also that whole nut-grabbing incident a few years back...Hmmm

Orlando/Toronto series: Sam Mitchell has been an idiot over the first three games of the series. He's made more changes than Michael Jackson, and they've only played 3 games. Hey Coach Sam! Why change your lineup in the playoffs, when the lineup you had in the season worked fine, good luck on the hot seat.

Cleveland/Washington series: Everyone is making too big of a deal out of the whole DeShawn Stevenson/LeBron James/Gilbert Arenas thing. Their all buddies just enjoying the best time of the year. Although, if I was DeShawn, I would talk a little less, because, no matter what DeShawn thinks, he isn't on LeBron or Gilbert's level.

Western Conference:

LA Lakers/Denver: Man if this game goes any further than 5 games, I think we can expect an Iverson suspension. He is already 3 away from the playoff limit. Oh and I think George Karl has been reading some of George Bush's speeches lately. When discussing a possible future as head coach of the Knicks, Karl said that paying attention to rumors like that would just, and I quote, "de-energize me and waste my energy". Oh yeah, and Kobe Bryant is the greatest thing since canned spam...

New Orleans/Dallas: I don't know if you heard, but Mavs small forward, Josh Howard, came out early Friday, and said he smokes weed in the off season. Now I know he "claims" to only smoke in the off season, but there has got to be some reason behind his 15 ppg on 28.5% shooting these playoffs, and I know it's not the defense of Peja Stojakovic.

San Antonio/Phoenix: I don't know who feels more like eating their head right now. Shawn Marion, who will most likely waste his contract year playing for the lowly Miami Heat, or Steve Kerr, for giving into Marion, and acquiring the Big Anti-Fastbreak.

Utah/Houston: Yeah T-Mac, we know your tired, I think everyone in the playoffs is tired right now, but they're hyped and still going hard. This is the playoffs, grow a pair and get YOUR team back in this series.

More soon to come!

2008 NBA Playoff Predictions: Part II

Here's Crossover Hoop's 2008 Eastern Conference Playoff predictions:

First Round:

1. Boston Celtics vs 8. Atlanta Hawks-Boston in 4: Do I really need to say anything. Atlanta's roster has a combined 66 games of playoff experience, while Boston's roster has a combined 474 games of playoff experience. Easy sweep for the #1 seeded Celtics. Nuff said, let's move on.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers vs 5. Washington Wizards-Washington in 6: I know Cleveland has the 2nd best player in the league on their team, and that they are the defending Eastern Conference Champions, but I am sorry, there is no way, a hurting LeBron, and a sorry supporting cast is going to get past Washington. Jamison, Butler, and Arenas, are too good to lose, and will most likely finish out the series in 6 to 7 games. Being the amazing player he is, LeBron will still have a great series, despite his back issues, but it won't be great enough to overcome how inconsistent this thrown-together Cavs team has been this year.

2. Detroit Pistons vs 7. Philadelphia 76ers-Detroit in 6: Philly has enough momentum to push this series to 6 maybe even 7 games, but Detroit has just too much experience, and is just too good to lose this series. Andre squared have played great this year, but we probably won't see any upsets here.

3. Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors-Orlando in 7: I don't know how many people agree with me that this will be a tight series, but I think that both teams are pretty square, and that they will push each other as far as both teams can go. Toronto is a great shooting team, and anchored by Bosh down low, will stay neck and neck all series with Orlando despite Superman 2.0 patrolling the paint for Orlando.

Semi-Finals:

1. Boston Celtics vs 5. Washington Wizards-Boston in 6:
The fact that Washington beat Boston 3 games out of 4 this season means a lot, but Boston is just too good to lose this early. If they do, I won't be surprised, but I still think that they will win this series in 5 or 6 games. On the other hand, if Arenas is back to his old Hibachi self, I think Washington might have a chance.

2. Detroit Pistons vs 3. Orlando Magic-Detroit in 6: Orlando is going to be tired after their long series vs Toronto, so any chance of pushing the series to 7 games seems pretty unrealistic. But Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, and Rashard Lewis, will put up a good fight against Detroit's Defense. Detroit will want to finish this series quick, and without trouble, so not to tire out for their next series, which will go down as one of the all time greatest Eastern Conference Finals in NBA history.

Conference Finals:

1. Boston Celtics vs 2. Detroit Pistons-Detroit in 7: As I said before, this series will be one of the greats. Two very hungry teams will both go to the brink to win this series. However, in the end, I'm giving the edge to Detroit, whose team has been together for ages. Boston's amazing run will end in Beantown, causing KG to wait another year for a ring.

Now, the moment we have all been waiting for...THE NBA FINALS!

THE NBA FINALS:

1. LA Lakers vs 2. Detroit Pistons(HCA)-LA Lakers in 5:
My boys will finally get their revenge for 5 years ago, when Detroit shocked the Lakers Hall of Fame Lineup. Detroit hasn't seen the Lakers with Gasol, and I think they will have too tough a time to contain Kobe, Pau, Lamar, and possibly Bynum all at the same time. Their defense is great, but if Prince is busy on Kobe, Sheed covering Pau, and Hamilton left to make a feeble attempt at stopping the new and improved LAMAR ODOM. And if Andrew Bynum is back, and making an impact, there is no chance of the Pistons getting more than 1 maybe 2 wins. It's time for the rebirth of the Lakers Dynasty, and boy is it SWEET! Oh and by the way, to go along with his MVP, and 4th championship ring, Kobe also brings home his very first Finals MVP award. Pretty good year, for someone who was demanding a trade 1 year ago.

2008 NBA Playoff Predictions

Yeah, I know, it's a little late, but here's Crossover Hoops 2008 NBA Playoff Predictions:

Western Conference:

First Round:

1. LA Lakers vs 8. Denver Nuggets-LA Lakers in 5: On paper, this series looks even all around, but I give the Lakers the edge because I believe Phil Jackson's coaching, and the fact the Lakers have Kobe, will overpower the dynamic duo of Carmelo "DUI" Anthony and Allen Iverson. George Karl has shown in the past that he fails to win when given great talent(see late 90s-early 00s Milwaukee Bucks, and the Olympic team from 2004).

4. Utah Jazz vs 5. Houston Rockets-Utah Jazz in 5: If Houston had Yao, this would be one of those 7 game series that go down as an NBA classic, but the absence of Yao, and the success T-Mac has had in past first round series(0-6) is too much for Houston to overcome and beat this great all-around Utah team.

2. New Orleans Hornets vs 7. Dallas Mavericks-Dallas in 7: If I made these picks after game one of the first round, I would pick the Hornets in 7, but I still think Dallas has a legit chance of beating CP3s Hornet's team, due to sheer playoff experience. This series, no matter who wins, will go to 7 games, and will most likely finish on crunch time plays. Dallas is looking to make up for last years playoff collapse against Golden State, while New Orleans is looking to establish themselves as a finals contender, despite being full of inexperience.

3. San Antonio Spurs vs 6. Phoenix Suns-Phoenix in 6: Like the Dallas-New Orleans series, my prediction would be different if I based it off of game 1. Anyways, this will easily be the best first round series in the West, and the playoff experience of both teams will be very important in this series. However, San Antonio's age hurt them down the stretch of the series, but it should be a great series all around.

Semi-Finals:

1. LA Lakers vs 4. Utah Jazz-LA Lakers in 6: The Lakers took 3 out of 4 against Utah this season, including a win that ended Utah's home winning streak on March 20, despite the absence of Bynum and Gasol. This will be a much tougher series for the Lakers compared to their current first round match up with Denver. Utah could push the game to 7, but the way the Lakers fared against Utah during the regular season, shows that the game will most likely be a 5 or 6 game series in LA's favor.

6. Phoenix Suns vs 7. Dallas Mavericks-Phoenix in 7: Another great series this playoffs could offer. With tons of playoff experience coming from both teams, and each team carrying an MVP from the previous 2 seasons, Dallas and Phoenix will have a great offensive battle, with every game being very high scoring. However, I highly doubt Dirk and Dampier will be able to contain the explosiveness of Amare and Shaq, so I give the edge to the Phoenix Suns.

Conference Finals:

1. LA Lakers vs 6. Phoenix Suns-LA Lakers in 7: Hopefully, for the Lakers, Andrew Bynum will return from injury for this series, and help Gasol inside against Phoenix's bolstered front court of Shaq and Amare. Even if Bynum doesn't come back, LA will most likely still win the series. Kobe and Lamar aren't forgetting what happened the last 2 years, and will be even more fired up now that Phoenix has Shaq. Overall, it will be a series to remember for years to come, but in the end, Kobe and Co. will be heading to the finals to play...

Eastern Conference playoff predictions coming soon!

Decisions..Decisions..It's Award Time!

As the best NBA season in my lifetime winds down, and the presenting of awards, looms in every NBA fan's head, it is time to hand out the 2008 Crossover Hoops Awards. The race to the MVP, this year, has been one of, if not the closest races in the history of the award. So lets can the small talk, and get on with the awards!

Coach of the Year: Byron Scott-New Orleans Hornets: I'm sure people predicted the Hornets to be good this year. Yeah they had a decent chance at the playoffs, maybe the 2nd or 3rd best record in their division, but I don't think anyone thought they would win their division, and compete for the best record in the conference. Yeah, they had a lot of help from MVP candidate Chris Paul, but I think Byron Scott deserves most of the credit. He has helped Tyson Chandler, a potential bust, transform into a great center, and has turned David West into the all-star he is today. Although New Orleans lack of playoff experience will haunt them throughout the playoffs, I still see them putting up a good fight against Byron Scott's former floor general, Jason Kidd and the Mavericks.
-Runner Up: Eddie Jordan, Washington Wizards

6th Man of the Year: Manu Ginobili-SG-San Antonio Spurs: I really think that there should be rules to this award, because players like Manu and Leandro Barbosa, who do come off the bench, play more minutes than most of the starters, not only on their teams, but other teams as well. Unfortunately, I don't make the rules. So, I just went with the obvious pick for this award, and picked maybe the best "sixth-man" in NBA history. Manu Ginobili. Manu is one of the best clutch players in this game, and he brings it every night. He has been San Antonio's MVP this year, and he deserves to be recognized. He is having a career year in almost every statistical category, and since Barbosa got the award last year, I'm giving it to Manu this year.
Runner Up: Leandro Barbosa, G, Phoenix Suns

Most Improved Player of the Year: Rudy Gay-F-Memphis Grizzlies: There was no question, that when this kid was drafted in '06, he had the potential to be a superstar. It was just uncertain whether or not he had the drive to reach his potential. Well, he has shown this year, that he going to be a very special player in this league for years to come, even though he's playing for one of the worst teams in the league(the Memphis Grizzlies). He's about doubled his scoring average, and has improved in almost every statistical category, from last year. If Rudy continues to improve at this rate, he will be an All-Star for years to come, possibly even an MVP candidate if Memphis builds around him correctly. Look for Rudy to improve even more next year and fight for a spot on the Western Conference All-Stars.
-Runner Up: Chris Kaman, C, Los Angeles Clippers

Rookie of the Year: Kevin Durant-SG/SF-Seattle Supersonics: Without a doubt in my mind, is Kevin Durant the R.O.Y. He lead all rookies in scoring(20.3) and free-throw percentage(87.3), as well as putting up solid defensive numbers for a rookie(.96 steals and .94 blocks per game, while only committing 1.53 fouls per contest). Durant is a great scorer, and has the potential to become one of the league's best defenders, due to the length of his arms. He has all the tools to become a top 5 player in this league, and will only improve as his career goes on.
-Runner Up: Al Horford, C, Atlanta Hawks

Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Garnett-PF-Boston Celtics: Although his numbers this year are all well below his career averages, KG has done something more than just put up numbers. He has transformed a Celtics defense, which last year, allowed an embarrassing, 99.2 points per game on 46.8% shooting, into one of the leagues best defenses, holding their opponent's to only 90.3 points per game on a ridiculous 41.9% shooting. If that doesn't warrant the nod for the league's best defensive player, I do not know what does.
-Runner Up: Marcus Camby, C, Denver Nuggets

Most Valuable Player of the Year: Kobe Bryant-SG-Los Angeles Lakers: It's pretty much a done deal that Kobe has this award on lock down, due to the minor collapse of Chris Paul during the month of April. KB24, has shown everyone whose been a doubter anytime in the last 12 years, once again, that he is the best player in the league. He may not be MJ or Magic, but he's something else, he's Kobe, and he'll go down as one of the top 10 players ever, but that doesn't matter now, all that matters is that he had great numbers, helped all of his teammates get better, oh yeah, and led the Lakers to the best record in the toughest conference in NBA history. My boy finally gets the credit he deserves, even though all he cares about is the 4th piece of gold on his finger.
-Runner Up: Chris Paul, PG, New Orleans Hornets

All-NBA First Team
G-Chris Paul, New Orleans
G-Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles LAkers

Fab Five of the Month for the Moth of March

Sorry to post this article so late, it's been a hectic last couple of days. Any ways, this month (March), has been so competitive. I had a very arduous time in deciding the rankings this month, since there was so many players worthy of top 5 consideration. Last month, Kobe had an outstanding month, en route to the #1 spot in my monthly rankings. LeBron had a ridiculous month, statistically, Carmelo played great all around ball, and two Spurs had great stats along with a great record. This month however, one great player did not make the rankings, another superstar slid far from last months rank, and 3 others, made their first appearance on the ranking board. So here we go, the Fab Five for the Month of March:

5. Kobe Bryant-SG-Los Angeles Lakers: Last month, Kobe was #1 in the rankings after having an outstanding month of February. However, this month, the Kobester dropped 4 spots in the rankings after he and the Lakers lost games that were gimmes. He also didn't shoot the highest field goal percentage either(44%). What kept Kobe in the top 5 though was his play during the absence of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. He dropped 2 50+ point games this month. 52 in an overtime win over Dallas, and 53 in an embarrassing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He also showed how versatile his game is, by recording 6 double doubles. The Lakers record was just barely good enough to keep him in the top 5, but for playing in the West, it still wasn't too bad of a record(9-6). For the month, Kobe averaged 31.5 ppg, which was the most any player averaged this month. Look for Kobe and the Lakers to play much better than their March performance, as they make a push for the #1 or #2 spot in the West.
Photobucket
-One thing Kobe has to be careful of is technical fouls. In the Lakers loss to Charlotte, Kobe picked up his 14th and 15th technicals of the season. One more and the Lakers lose him for a game.

4. Andre Iguodala-G/F-Philadelphia 76ers: Playing for one of the hottest teams in sports right now, Andre Iguodala led his team to an outstanding 11-4 record for the month of March. Iggy and the Sixers had HUGE wins over big time playoff contenders, like the, Boston Celtics(IN BOSTON), San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons(IN DETROIT), Denver Nuggets, and the Phoenix Suns(IN PHOENIX). Not only did Iggy Pop show that he could lead his team to wins, but he also showed how versatile he was. He averaged 21.1 points per game(season high), 4.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. He also shot 49.4% from the field and 39.6% from behind the arc, which are the best shooting percentages hes had over the course of a month all year. Along with rookie, Thaddeus Young, third year scoring guard, Louis Williams, and the long, young Samuel Dalembert, Philly has a lot to look forward to in the future.
Photobucket
-Iggy, who has an uncanny ability for throwing down nasty dunks, slams in 2 of his 21 points in a 121-99 win over Chicago on March 26th.

3. Amare Stoudemire-PF-Phoenix Suns: One thing that has been greatly affected by the Shaq trade, has been the play of 25 year old Amare Stoudemire. During March, S.T.A.T. averaged 29.3 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game, and shot an outstanding 58.7% from the field. Amare also led Phoenix to a 11-5 record this past month, which included a 7 game winning streak. On the last game of that streak, was a home match up against the Houston Rockets. Amare exploded for 38 points, but only hit 9 field goals. How in the world did he manage to get 38 points that game. He didn't he any threes. What he did do, was go 20 for 20 from the LINE! Stoudemire became the third player to ever go at least 20 for 20 from the line, the most recent being Detroit's Richard Hamilton in a win over Charlotte during the 2004-2005 season, in which he hit 20 out of 20 free throws that game. If Amare continues his beast-like play during April and the playoffs, we might see the championship trophy heading to Phoenix.
Photobucket
-Amare throws down 2 of his March high, 41 points, in a 132-117 win over the Denver Nuggets. Amare also hit 17 of 19 free throws and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Phoenix win.

2. Deron Williams-PG-Utah Jazz: D-Will is no doubt having the best season of his young career. He has been averaging career highs in points(19.3), assists(10.5), field goal percentage(51.5%), and free throw percentage(80%). He is proving that he will fill John Stockton's shoes, and will be Utah's next great point guard. He might even be better if he continues to improve at the rate he is doing so. During the month of March, Deron Williams led Utah to an outstanding 12-4 record. Notable wins included victories over Dallas, Phoenix(on the road), Denver, and a road victory over Boston. He had a double double(pts/asts) in all but 2 games during the month. He may not be an MVP candidate this year, but he will be one soon, as he will be hungry to prove that Chris Paul isn't the only superstar point guard in the league.
Photobucket
-Showing he isn't all about just dimes and jumpers, D-Will throws down a thunderous 2 hander in a win over Seattle.

1. Chris Paul-PG-New Orleans Hornets: This month, CP3 looked like the favorite to win the MVP award. He pushed New Orleans into the top spot in the Wild Wild West, and did so convincingly. He led the Hornets to an 11-4 month, and in those 15 games, averaged 21.4 points on a season high 55.3% shooting, while also dropping a season high 13.3 assists per game, to catapult him into the #1 assister in the NBA. He continues to show he is not just a great offensive player, but a great defender too, averaging 2.7 steals per game. He has also recorded at least 1 steal in every game he as played this year, a pretty amazing feat for someone who is only 22. Most likely he will lead New Orleans into the playoffs as the number one seed in the West, but we will see how his and the teams lack of playoff experience hurts them. `
Photobucket
-Here we see CP3 showing off his defensive array, as he covers Paul Pierce who has 6 inches of height over the pesky 6 foot point guard.

Well, there you have it, the Fab Five of the month. April's will be coming up very soon due to the seasons end in the middle of the month. Hope you enjoyed this months rankings. Check back soon for Mock Drafts, Final Season Predictions, and Playoff Predictions.

Sweet, Sweet Karma

It has been almost a year since the Miami Heat have won back to back games. The last time being in wins over Washington and Indiana on April 11 and 13 of 2007 respectively. They currently stand at a league worst, 12-60, as of March 30. They seem to be doing one of the most frowned upon things in sports, tanking for a better draft position. Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem, and Dorrell Wright have all ended their seasons early, with Heat newbie, Shawn Marion, most likely joining that list in the upcoming days. Well Karma will find the Heat, and Pat Riley will be sorry for leading the Heat into that. Just last season, Boston and Memphis seemed to lose more than they should have, and have now been rightfully accused of tanking. Well, Karma found its way into the streets of Memphis and Boston, and showed everyone that if you tank you will get punished. So, if you disagree with me, here are the numbers: Memphis had a 25% chance of winning the lottery, and Boston had a 19.8% chance of winning the lottery. So if percentages played out correctly, Memphis would be picking 1 and Boston picking next a 2. Instead, both teams ended up with the lowest picks they could get. Memphis got the 4th pick and Boston fell to the 5th spot. Now do you really believe that BOTH Memphis and Boston would drop as far as they could drop on coincidence? I certainly don't. Hopefully Pat Riley and the Heat organization learn their lesson by missing out on choosing the NCAA standout of their choice. Whether it be , Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose, or Brook Lopez, the Heat should not get that privilege. A team like Minnesota or the Clippers really deserve that #1 pick. Both teams have battled through either season effecting injuries or just the fact that their team sucks. Minnesota has played hard, despite their first season without KG since the 1994-1995 season. The Clippers have played without Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston all year, due to injuries, and they still have been playing hard. If Draft Lottery Karma gets Miami like it has gotten other teams in the past, I, and many others, will be very happy.

Oh, and by the way, the fact that I despise the Miami Heat and their organization, only makes this sweeter for me.

Photobucket
-Karma will find you soon Riley! In this photo, it looks like Coach Pat is signaling one of Miami's many tanking plays. Hah, I no that's is probably not true, but with how bad Miami is this year, I wouldn't put it past Pat Riley to have those plays.

Top 10 Free Agents of the 2008 Offseason

Photobucket
-Last summer, Orlando had the biggest free agent pickup, acquiring forward Rashard Lewis in a sign and trade deal with the Sonics. Lewis' new contract was worth more than 110 million over 6 years.

Last summer, all major free-agents, with the exception of Rashard Lewis, resigned with their respective teams. Players like Vince Carter, Gerald Wallace, Anderson Varejao(better late than never), and even Andres Nocioni all resigned with their teams. While Rashard Lewis went for big money and a big fella(Dwight Howard).

This summer, on the other hand, has a lot more potential player relocations. Washington's Antwan Jamison and Miami's Ricky Davis, are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Their is also a solid number of desirable restricted free agents too. Perhaps the most coveted free agent this summer will be Warriors rising star, Monta Ellis, a restricted free agent.

A lot of superstars who signed max contracts in previous years, are now in their player option year, so they can choose to opt out and become a unrestricted free agent. Players like Washington superstar Gilbert Arenas, and Miami forward, Shawn Marion, have already expressed their desire to opt out and sign max deals either with their current team, or in a new location.

Now, Crossover Hoops ranks the top 10 free agents(some player options are not included, due the unlikeliness of them opting out) of this upcoming offseason.

And starting us off at number 10 is,

Jose Calderon-PG-Restricted Free Agent: Easily having the best season of his short career, Jose Calderon is quickly establishing himself as a top fleet point guard in the NBA. Currently 5th in the NBA in assists, only trailing 4 players who are averaging at least 10 assists per game, Calderon has proven that he can be the point man on any team in this league. I could see Calderon either staying in Toronto, teaming up with CB4 to make one of the nastiest young point guard-big man duos in the NBA. I could also seeing Calderon taking less money than he could get and joining friend Pau Gasol in the Lakers. Look for Calderon to sign anywhere from 6 million a year to 11 million a year.

Photobucket
-Could Calderon(L) and Bosh(R) become a future dynamic duo in the east?

9. Ben Gordon-G-Restricted Free Agent: With the exception of Kobe Bryant, not one player in the NBA emphasizes the word "shooting" in the shooting guard position more than Chicago's young gunner. Gordon could have gotten a contract around 50 million over 5 years last summer, but he turned it down, thinking he could hit the jackpot as a restricted free agent this summer. With both Gordon and Luol Deng's contracts coming off the books this summer, Chicago will have to decide who they want to spend their money on. Most people expect them to give Deng more than Gordon, and who wouldn't, if he stays healthy, Deng could be a future 20/7 player in the NBA. However, that shouldn't take anything away from Ben. Gordon will be a great guard in the league for the next 8 to 10 years. If he doesn't return to Chicago, I could see him signing with the Sixers, who will need another guard if Iguodala leaves, or they decide to put him at the SF spot. They are also in desperate need of a shooter, as the absence of Kyle Korver has hurt them tremendously in that category. I see Gordon getting anywhere from 8 to 12 million a year.

Photobucket
-Will Ben Gordon keep the Baby Bulls young core alive, or will he jump ship and join a team in need of a big time scoring guard?

8. Corey Maggette-F/G-Player Option: Maggette, in my opinion, is one of the most unappreciated and underrated players in the game today. For the past 3 years, he hasn't had an ideal relationship with coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. However, despite all the problems, Maggette has shown he is a great all around player this year. Any team would be lucky to have this kid. He can score 20+ points and grab at least 7 rebounds on any given night. He is still relatively young, and will be an effective 1st or 2nd option on almost every team in the league. Due to the problems him and Coach Dunleavy have faced over the past few years, I do not see Corey returning in a Clips uni next year. Teams I see him possibly ending up with are Miami, San Antonio, Portland, and New York. He will most likely get anywhere from 8 million a year to 12 million a year.

Photobucket
-As of March 21, Maggette is averaging 22.4 points per game, which is a career high for him. He is currently 10th in the league in PPG. He is also shooting a career best, 40.8% from beyond the arc.

7. Luol Deng: F: Restricted Free Agent: Last summer, Deng was reportedly offered a 5 year 50 million dollar contract extension with the Bulls. However, he supposedly turned it down and decided to become a restricted free agent this summer. Deng could be a star small forward in the near future, as long as he is in the right place at the right time, and consistently works on his game. Currently Deng is one of the centerpieces of the Baby Bulls young core, which includes himself, guard Kirk Hinrich, forward Andres Nocioni, guard Ben Gordon, center/forward Joakim Noah, and forwards Tyrus Thomas and Drew Gooden. Deng could choose to try and sign with a team where he would be the focal point in the offense, or he could stay in Chicago, and be a big part of a team that is only a good coach away from being a top notch team in the East. I can't see Deng going anywhere else, because it seems he is happy in Chicago, but for him to stay, he's going to have to compromise on his salary. If he wants to be apart of a good Chicago team, he will have to take less money in order for Chicago to try and resign Gordon and possibly another key free agent. I see Deng getting anywhere from 7 million a year to 14 a year.

Photobucket
-If Deng stays in Chicago, he could be apart of a Bulls squad that will rival LeBron's (L) Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.

6. Andre Iguodala: G/F: Restricted Free Agent: Like Deng and Gordon, Iggy Pop supposedly turned down a reported 57 million dollar contract spread over 5 years. Some people thought he was nuts, others, thought he could get more this summer. So, the season began, Iggy's numbers and Philly's performance were nowhere near worth a 57 million dollar contract. Unexpectedly, things began to change, Iguodala's numbers improved and Philly began to win games. In games spanning from Feb 5th to March 19th, Philadelphia won 16 out of 20 games. Including 2 4 game winning streaks and 1 5 game winning streak. In that stretch the Sixers beat playoff contenders San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Orlando and Washington, en route to the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference. For the season, Iguodala is averaging a career high 19.7 ppg. Most likely, Iguodala returns to Philly due to their recent success. He will probably get anywhere from 9 million a year to 15 million a year.

Photobucket
-Iguodala and the Sixers have been rising to the occasion as of late, looking to capture a playoff spot in the East.

5. Antwan Jamison-PF-Unrestricted Free Agent: The biggest name unrestricted free agent on the market. Antwan is nearing the end of the peak of his career. He is a 20/10 player every night, and has being carrying the load for the Wizards, along with Caron "Tough Juice" Butler, during Gilbert Arenas' absence. Antwan is a nightly inside scoring threat, and will provide experience, leadership, and instant offense for any team that decides to sign him. If he decides to leave Washington, which he most likely will if Arenas leaves, I could see him signing with a team like Chicago, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Charlotte, or Miami. Since he is turning 32 in June, don't expect him to get a large, long-term deal. I see him getting a contract around 4 years 36 million. Normally players his age should get less, but he has proven to stay healthy and play at a high level since breaking the 30 year mark.
Photobucket
-Jamison and the sixth place Wizards have been playing very well in the absence of Agent Zero.

4. Shawn Marion-F-Player Option: For the past 2 years, Marion had complained about not getting enough recognition as a player, despite having a max deal, being a 4 time all-star, making the All-NBA third team twice, and being in the top 5 in voting for Defensive Player of the year two times. Well, prior to All-Star break, Marion got his wish, and was traded to the worst team in the NBA, the Miami Heat, in a blockbuster deal which brought the Diesel to Phoenix. Now Marion has to decide if he wants to take a pay cut, and play for a winning team, or go to whoever offers him a max contract. I have bashed Marion for being selfish in the past (see my article on the Heat-Suns trade), and I still think he is selfish. Don't get me wrong, I've talked to him in the past before, he is a very nice guy. But sometimes, if you really care about winning you can't care about individual accolades, which Shawn has being doing for the past 2+ years. I see Shawn most likely opting out and signing with possibly the Warriors, Bobcats, or 76ers. He will most likely get 10-12 million a year in the contract he signs.
Photobucket
-(From Left to Right) Marion, Pat Riley, and Dwyane Wade have only won 12 games this year. The Heat are 3-15 since Marion's arrival in South Beach. They stand at a league worst 12-56.

3. Monta Ellis-G-Restricted Free Agent: So far, Ellis' career reminds me eerily of how Gilbert Arenas' career began. Like Arenas, Ellis has begun his young, promising career in Golden State, after being selected in the second round. Just like Arenas, Ellis won the Most Improved player award in his second year. If he stays in Golden State, Ellis will be the future superstar in Golden State, where he will most likely enjoy success, if Warriors GM Chris Mullin continues to put the right puzzle pieces in Warrior uniforms. If, however, Ellis decides to follow in Arenas' footsteps and sign elsewhere, I see him most likely signing in Memphis, where he, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, and this years draft pick will form a young, exciting core, which could contend in the west for years to come. He will most likely get a max deal, or something close to it, making anywhere from 10 million a year to 15 million a year.
Photobucket
-Quickly becoming one of the best scoring guards in the league, Ellis has to decide what he wants this summer: money or wins.

2. Baron Davis-PG-Player Option: For the past 3 1/2 years, Baron Davis and the Warriors have quickly become one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA. Leading a team that is averaging a league best, 110.9 points per game, Davis has shown that he is a top notch point guard in this league. After running the show for the Warriors, who pulled a HUGE 8 over 1 seed upset in last years playoffs over Dallas, it is tough to see B-Diddy wanting to play anywhere else. He has had, arguably, one of his best seasons this year, and I see him opting out of his contract in order to gain stability, by signing a new, long-term contract with the Warriors. I see him signing a 4 or 5 year contract, worth about 40 to 50 million.
Photobucket
-Not letting an All-Star snub bring him down, Baron Davis has lead the Warriors to a potential playoff berth in the toughest Western Conference in the history of basketball.

AND FINALLY...THE NUMBER ONE FREE AGENT ON THE MARKET THIS SUMMER...

1. Gilbert "Agent Zero" Arenas-PG-Player Option: It seems almost a given Arenas is going to opt out of his contract at seasons end. Gilbert has stated more than once, in his own, NBA.Com blog, that he is going to opt out, and sign a max deal with either the Wizards or a new ball club, where he can win a championship. Despite playing only 8 games so far this season due to injury, Arenas will still most likely sign a max deal. He is a superstar, and he deserves superstar money. He is only of the most clutch players in the NBA, and easily a top 5 scorer in the league. If he can come back, and help get the Wizards far in the playoffs, I see him resigning with the Wizards, and improving their chances of going to the finals and representing the East. If he decides to leave, I see him signing with his hometown Clippers, or the Sacramento Kings.
Photobucket
-Agent Zero is currently in the same dilemma as his heir apparent in Golden State. Does he want money or wins?

Fab Five of the Month for the Month of February

Wow! What an exciting finish to February 2008! This month could be the most exciting month we see all year. Well, that is until the Western Conference Playoffs start. Not only did we see outstanding individual performances and spectacular team play, but we also saw the Wild West get even tougher(if that is even possible!). However, this is not the time for talk of the Western Conference race. It is time though, for the Fab Five of the Month!

Last month, Amare, CP3, Kobe, Yao, and LeBron were the top 5. However, this month, only two of those 5 return to the infamous Crossover Hoops' Fab Five of the Month. Now, I present you with February's finest.

5. Carmelo Anthony-F-Denver Nuggets: In easily his best monthly performance of the year, Carmelo Anthony lead his team to a decent 9-5 record. Normally, a month of 9 wins and 5 losses would be regarded as much higher than just "decent". However, Carmelo's Nuggets squad is in the Wild West, and winning 9 out of 14 games in a month, is just barley enough to keep you above water, which is metaphorically where the Nuggets sit right now. 9th place in the conference, and 1/2 game out of the 8th and final playoff spot. Anyways, on to Carmelo's spectacular month. He averaged a season high of 27.5 points per game this month, to go along with his 8.8 rebounds, and 49 point explosion in a 111-100 win over Washington on Feb. 8th. For the month, Carmelo shot just under 50%(49.6% to be exact) from the field, and sunk 85 out of 95 free throws for a 89.5 percentage for the month. In his career high-tying 49 point game vs Washington, he shot an unthinkable 19-25 (76%) from the field. Easily his highest field goal percentage in a game all year. Carmelo pushed hard this month, look for him to push even harder to get into the playoff picture by the end of next month.

4. Manu Ginobili-G-San Antonio Spurs: In three separate games this month, Ginobili recorded career highs in three separate statistical categories. On a Feb. 11th game @ Toronto, Ginobili pulled down a career high, 15 rebounds. 2 days later he exploded for a career high 46 points in a match with LeBron James and Co. He also hit a career high 8 three pointers in that game. Then, on Feb 23rd, GINOBILI!, dished out a career high 12 assists in a 98-89 win over the New Orleans Hornets. Ginobili showed the coaches, who mistakenly forgot to vote him in as an All-Star reserve, that he deserved to be wearing a West uni in New Orleans this past month. Manu helped lead the Spurs to a spectacular 10-1 record during this month, despite injury to their star play maker, Tony Parker. Look for Ginobili to continue his strong play, and lead the Spurs on their annual second half surge into the playoffs.

-Manu Ginobili drives to the basket against Minnesota guard, Marko Jaric. Ginobili dropped 44 points on 18 shots, while hitting 7 of 9 threes, in a 100-99 win over the slumping Wolves.

3. Tim Duncan-PF/C-San Antonio Spurs: Timmy D got off to a slow start this year, getting a double double in only 7 out of 15 games. However, this month, Duncan had a great month of February, as usual, leading his team along with Manu Ginobili, to a 10-1 record for the month. One of Duncan's best performances came in a 100-99 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb 21st. He dropped 24 points(on 8-16 shooting-50%), pulled down 14 rebounds(12 offensive), dished out 7 assists, blocked 4 shots, and made all 8 of his free throw attempts. There were two stats of his that stood out from that game. His 7 assists, and his 8 for 8 shooting from the foul line. Timmy D, not normally a good free throw shooter(72% for the season-68.2% for his career), showed everyone, that even though he is 31, soon to be 32, he is still a major player in the game. Overall, a great month for the Big Fundamental.

Photobucket
-Duncan skies up for 2 of his 23 points in the Spurs 89-74 win over the Atlanta Hawks, on Feb. 25th.

2. LeBron James-F-Cleveland Cavaliers: January's finest player of the month, proved to be spectacular again this month. King James had averages of 30.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.9 steals, while shooting 49.8% from the floor. The Cavaliers only went 8-6 for the month, however, 8-6, along with 2 back to back triple doubles, and 8 30+ point games, kept LeBron in the top 2 in this months rankings. On back to back days this month, LeBron recorded triple doubles 2 days in a row(in a 2/19 loss to Houston and a 2/20 win over Indiana), for the second time this season, making him the first player to do so, since HOF'er, Magic Johnson, did it in the 1987-1988 season. LeBron is still a top 3 candidate for MVP this year, but since it doesn't look like the Cavs will reach 50 wins, the award seems out of his reach this year. Look for LBJ23 to keep up the intense play to push the new-look Cavs through the playoffs, and into another possible Finals appearance.

Photobucket
-LeBron(right) explains something to newly acquired big man, Ben Wallace(left). LeBron and Co. are 2-2 since the trade that brought Ben Wallace to town.

1. Kobe Bryant-G-Los Angeles Lakers: Making his third appearance on C-Hoops Fab Five of the Month Rankings, Kobe has proved to everyone that he is absolutely deserving of this years MVP award. Kobe lead the Lakers to a 13-2 month, which included a 10 game winning streak. Kobe had his best monthly shooting percentage this month, shooting, 50.7% from the field. He also shot his best percentage from the charity stripe this month, shooting 88.3%. He also converted on I believe 47 consecutive free-throws, before missing in a game vs Phoenix. Mamba and the Lakers are only getting better as the season progresses, and they look to finish the season as the best of the west, heading into the playoffs. Kobe's Lakers have also been on top of most writers power rankings for the past couple weeks, and Kobe is starting to convince former haters, that he is one of the greatest ever to play the game.

Photobucket
-Kobe celebrates with new Lakers forward/center, Pau Gasol. The Lakers are 11-2 since their acquisition of the Spanish Superstar.

Well, thats it for this month. Two Spurs made the cut, 2 MVP candidates were seen on the rankings, and one rising superstar rounded out this months top 5. Check back at the end of March for next months Fab Five of the Month.

Check back soon for new posts. I got some new ideas for the blog, so you might see some new additions in the upcoming weeks.

The West Gets Wilder and the East? Well...Cleveland got better

Photobucket
-Pictured above left to right is, Shaquille O'Neal, Jason Kidd, and Pau Gasol.

In one of the most active trade years, the Western Conference became even more dominate, if that is even possible. With the Lakers addition of power forward, Pau Gasol, Phoenix's acquisition of the Big Aristotle, and the trade which sent All-Star point guard, Jason Kidd back to the team that drafted him, the Dallas Mavericks. However, all these deals happened before the 3:00 PM (EST) Trade Deadline this afternoon. Most people were expecting a quite deadline, because of all the high profile trades made in the previous weeks. However, the trades that went down today, were hardly quiet at all. Chicago finally dealt center Ben Wallace. one and a half years into his 4 year 60 million dollar contract he signed with the Bulls in the summer of 2006.
Seattle sent away forward/guard Wally Szczerbiak and guard Delonte West. Minnesota forward, and runner up in the 2008 slam dunk contest, Gerald Green, was sent to his hometown of Houston to play for the Rockets. Since there are so many trades, I won't go over all of them, but I'll comment briefly on each major trade completed over the last few days.

Trade #1: On Tuesday, Dallas finally acquired Jason Kidd. The trade was as follows: New Jersey trades PG Jason Kidd, PF Malik Allen, and SG Antoine Wright to Dallas, who signed F Keith Van Horn and traded him to New Jersey, along with, PG Devin Harris, C DeSagana Diop, SG Maruice Ager, and SG/SF Trenton Hassell. Overall a fair trade for both teams. Dallas gets a star PG, however, I don't see it helping them beat the likes of the Lakers, New Orleans, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Utah.

Trade #2: In the last trade completed before today, San Antonio acquired C Kurt Thomas from the Seattle Sonics, in exchange for G Brent Barry, C Francisco Elson, and their 2009 first round pick. This trade makes San Antonio even better, giving them a scrappy big man in Kurt Thomas, who will take a lot of the defensive load, in order to preserve Tim Duncan for the playoffs. Seattle gets 2 expiring contracts in this deal, which will help them sign free agents in the upcoming off season.

Trade #3: In a three team deal, the Houston Rockets acquire G Bobby Jackson, G Adam Haluska and a 2008 second pick from the New Orleans Hornets. They also obtain the rights to Sergei Lishouk of Memphis. The New Orleans Hornets receive PG Mike James and G/F Bonzi Wells from the Houston Rockets. Memphis adds F Marcus Vinicius from New Orleans, and the rights to Malick Badiane, from Houston. Bonzi Wells, Mike James, and Bobby Jackson, are the only notable players moved in this trade. Bobby Jackson gives Houston a nice option at back up point guard. Jackson was the 2003 Sixth Man of the Year, while playing for the Kings. Mike James and Bonzi Wells bring New Orleans the toughness and experience they will need to succeed in the Western Conference playoffs. Wells is a tenacious all around player, and will most likely take Morris Peterson's starting SG job by the playoffs. Mike James provides depth for a very weak New Orleans bench.

Trade #4: Houston makes another deal today, acquiring F/G Gerald Green, who is a Houston native, from the Minnesota Timberwolves, in exchange for G Kirk Snyder, a 2010 second round draft pick, and cash considerations. This trade doesn't have any immediate impact on either team. However, Gerald Green could prove to be a late bloomer, and become a star in his hometown of Houston.

Trade #5:
A 3 team-11 player deal between the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, and Seattle Sonics is completed, and is without question, the biggest trade on the day of trade deadline. The Cleveland Cavaliers acquire C/PF Ben Wallace, PF Joe Smith, and 2009 second round pick from the Chicago Bulls. They also receive G/F Wally Szczerbiak and G Delonte West from the Seattle Sonics. The Chicago Bulls get PF Drew Gooden, G Larry Hughes, PF Cedric Simmons, and SG Shannon Brown from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Seattle Sonics acquire F Donyell Marshall and F/G Ira Newble from Cleveland, and G/F Adrian Griffin from Chicago. LeBron has been seeing all the great teams getting even better, and he wanted his team to give him some help. Well on the day of the trade deadline, LeBron finally gets some new help. The additions of Ben Wallace,
Wally Szczerbiak, and Delonte West, will all aid the Cavs tremendously in their hunt for a title. Although, if they somehow manage to get past Detroit and Boston, whoever they play from the West in the finals, will decimate them.

Ben Wallace

In a meaningless trade, Portland traded G Taurean Green to Denver for G Von Wafer.

Overall, a big season for trading. Tons of big deals were made, and it will only make the league tougher. Their players who were expected to be traded, such as, Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest, Vince Carter, and the entire Knicks roster, who all remained in their current locations. That being so, the off season should be full of roster changes and blockbuster deals.

The East goes home victorious; Allen catches fire and LeBron takes home some hardware

Photobucket
-2008 All-Star Game MVP, LeBron James, hoists up his MVP trophy. LeBron finished with 27 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds.

Except for a few short periods of time, The East squad led almost the entire game. From start to finish, the East outplayed the West in the NBA's annual pickup/exhibition game, beating them, 134 to 128. Leading the way for the victorious Eastern Conference squad was Cleveland forward, and 2006 All-Star Game MVP, LeBron James. He finished with 27 points(12-22 shooting), 9 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. He also had a handful of dunks, including a ferocious slam over Dallas forward, Dirk Nowitzki, with 55 seconds to go, putting the East on top for good. He was announced the games MVP, his second time in three years. Another player who produced quality numbers for the East was Boston's Ray Allen, who had 28 points(10-14 shooting), 5 of which came from behind the arc to give the East momentum down the stretch. Orlando center, Dwight Howard, had a big night, hitting all 7 of his shots, for 16 points. He also pulled down 9 rebounds and had 3 steals. For the Western squad, New Orleans' guard, Chris Paul, played the best, scoring 16 points(7-14 shooting), and dished out 14 assists. Also playing great for the West team, was Portland guard, Brandon Roy. In his first ever All-Star appearance, Roy dropped 18 points(8-10 shooting), pulled down 9 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists.

Photobucket
-First timer, Brandon Roy, of the Portland Trail Blazers, skies high for 2 of his West high, 18 points.

One key factor that kept the West out of contention the majority of this game, was the absence of Kobe Bryant. Kobe played hardly at all, due to torn ligaments in his right pinkie finger. He exited the game for the final time after about 3 minutes into the 1st quarter.

Photobucket
-Laker's superstar guard, Kobe Bryant, can only sit back and watch as his team goes on to lose 134-128.

Overall, New Orleans hosted a great All-Star weekend for the players and the fans. In my mind, the best part of having the game in New Orleans this year, was the amount of charity work they players were able to do for this depleted state of Louisiana, just 2 years off the horrible, Hurricane Katrina. Well, this was a nice break from the season, but now its time to start the second half, and watch 10 West teams duke it out for 8 playoff spots. We also get to see how many sub .500 east teams make the playoffs. It's been a great weekend! We have had celebrities, youngsters, slam dunks, 3 pointers, and SUPERMAN 2.0!

Records, Repeats, Cupcakes, and SUPERMAN

Tonight had to be one of the most exciting All-Star Saturday Nights in a VERY long time. We had a Skillz Challenge record set, by Jazz guard Deron Williams, we saw the sharpshooting small forward from Toronto, Jason Kapono, defend his crown in the three point shootout, and we saw Dwight Howard and Gerald Green put on probably the most spectacular performance in the history of the Slam Dunk Contest.

Photobucket
-Gerald Green of the Minnesota Timberwolves, goes to complete his "Birthday Cake" dunk in the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest.

Photobucket
-2008 Slam Dunk Champion, Dwight Howard, goes up for his SUPERMAN dunk, which amazed the crowd, beyond belief.

I'll skip talking about the Shooting Stars competition, because, as usual, it was less than exciting. So, I'll begin with the Playstation Skillz Challenge, which Jazz guard, Deron Williams won easily, over New Orleans hometown hero, point guard, Chris Paul. Deron Williams recorded a record time in the final round of this contest, clocking in at, 25.5 seconds. Paul finished in a close second, completing the course in 31.2 seconds. Nets point guard Jason Kidd and 2 time Skillz Challenge Champ, Dwyane Wade, failed to advance to the 2nd round, completing the course in 39.7 and 53.9 seconds, respectively.

Not only did Toronto's marksman, Jason Kapono win his second straight Foot Locker Three Point Shootout, but by scoring 25 points in the final round, tied Mark Price's all-time record, set in 1986. Kapono edged out last nights Rookie Challenge MVP, Daniel Gibson, and 2006 3 point champ, Dirk Nowitzki in the final round. Gibson scored 17 in the final round, to place second, and Dirk took third, scoring 14 in the final round. The other contestants included, Detroit's Richard Hamilton, Phoenix's Steve Nash, and New Orleans' Peja Stojakovic, who all failed to qualify for the second round.

Finishing off the night, was the always exciting Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Timberwolves swing man, Gerald Green was looking to defend his dunking crown, while Orlando center, Dwight Howard was looking to avenge his early exit from last years contest. Memphis forward, Rudy Gay, and Toronto, rookie, forward, Jamario Moon, both newcomers to the contest, both looked to make a bang in the exciting event. However, after mediocre dunks from Rudy Gay, and exciting, but not dunk contest worthy dunks from Jamario Moon, Dwight Howard and Gerald Green would put on a show no NBA fan will ever forget. Dwight Howard producing two incredible first round dunks, and then starting the second round off with the SUPERMAN DUNK. Gerald Green's most memorable dunk, had to be his first dunk. Called, the "Birthday Cake" dunk, Green blew out a candle on a cupcake, sitting on the back of the rim, before jamming the ball in the hole. However, Green was no match for Superman's second round, and Dwight won handily, receiving 5 out of 5 votes from the judges panel, and 74% of the vans vote, online and via text message. A full recap of this video can be seen in the following video, brought to you by ESPN.com.

Overall, a very exciting night, and it should carry over well into tomorrow's All-Star game. All the participants tonight put on quite a show, and next years Saturday events should be even better. Also making headlines today, was Sacramento's trade of Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks. Tomorrow should be entertaining, and this weekend should finish off well.

Bibby is Finally Dealt, but for Who?

It's been a year of Mike Bibby trade talk, and on the 2nd day of All-Star Weekend, Mike Bibby is finally in another uniform. On Saturday afternoon, the trade of Kings point guard Mike Bibby to Atlanta for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyrone Lue, along with forwards Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright. The Hawks also sent their second round pick in this years draft to Sacramento.

Normally teams wait until after the break to complete trades, but since none of the 5 players involved in this deal were apart of the eventful weekend, it shouldn't matter that much. The trade for Sacramento seemed to be a cap clearer for this summer, because 3 of the 4 players acquired for Bibby, have expiring contracts.

This trade should be a big help for Atlanta, who seemed to be a point guard away from being a playoff contender in the east. Now, they have one of the most playoff savvy point guards in the league. He has boatloads of experience, this being Bibby's 10th season in the league. Sacramento on the other hand doesn't immediately benefit from this deal, but it will help them this coming off season, by clearing a little over 7.5 million dollars from their payroll. With this draft also being quite deep, they should also be able to pick up a decent player with that second round pick. Shelden Williams, AKA the Landlord, could become quite a beneficial asset to this young King's team. He provides the inside toughness, to complement Brad Miller's more offensive oriented game, creating a somewhat threatening lineup of possibly, John Salmons or Beno Udrih, Kevin Martin, Ron Artest, Williams, and Miller. Overall, this was a very unexpected deal, but it seems somewhat reasonable for both teams, and could be a hit or miss for Atlanta and Sacramento.

Sacramento's record is currently 23-28, 11th place in the West, and is 9 1/2 games out of 8th place. Atlanta is 21-28, 9th place in the Eastern Conference, and is currently .05 percentage points out of 7th and 8th place.

All-Star Friday Night Recap

Photobucket
-Rookie-Sophomore game MVP, Daniel Gibson(1), hits one of his 11 3 pointers over Toronto rookie, Jamario Moon(33), in Friday Nights Rookie-Sophomore game.

After T.O made history in the celebrity game, by becoming the first participant to dunk in the contest, it was time for the highlight of the night, the Rookie-Sophomore game. The game was moderately exciting, as usual, with the Sophomore team blowing out the rookies, 136-109. Making it the sophomores sixth straight win over the rookie squad. The game, highlighted by Cleveland's Daniel Gibson's 33 points(11-20 from 3 point range) and the Lakers Jordan Farmar who tailed 17 points and 12 assists. Gibson's 11 3 pointers, broke the previous record of 7, by Kyle Korver in the 05 game, and he had tied the record by the end of the first half.
Also for the Sophomore team, Memphis forward, Rudy Gay, had 22 points on 9-12 shooting. Portland All-Star guard, Brandon Roy scored 17 points and had 7 assists for the Sophomores.

The rookies were lead by Seattle forward, Kevin Durant's 23 points and 8 rebounds. Also shining strong for the Rookie Team, was Nets forward-center, Sean Williams. The 6-11 Williams scored 17 points to go along with his 10 rebounds. Atlanta center Al Horford scored 19 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

It seems as if All-Star weekend is looking to be very good this year, and All-Star Saturday Night should be more than what most of us are expecting.

All-Star Weekend Predictions

Ahh, not only do I get a 4 day weekend from school, but it's All-Star Weekend in the NBA. This years All-Star weekend should be exciting, taking place in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kicking off tonight with the Celebrity All-Star game at 4pm(pacific), followed by the always exciting Rookie-Sophomore game at 6pm(pacific). Then after some sleep, I wake up too the best day of All-Star Weekend, All-Star Saturday Night. However, the events don't just happen at night. During the day, you can check out the amusing West and East team practices on NBA TV, which have proven to be entertaining the past 2 years. Also during the day is the D-League All-Star game, which should be somewhat entertaining. After all these events and a little dinner, it's time for the fun, All-Star Saturday Night! Starting at 5pm(pacific), the Playstation Skillz Challenge will be highlighted by Dwyane Wade, who will be looking to win this contest for the third straight year! Also in the contest is New Orleans' Chris Paul, Utah's Deron Williams, and New Jersey's Jason Kidd. After that is, my least favorite event, the Haier Shooting Stars Challenge. Featuring a legend, a current NBA player and a WNBA player from Chicago, Detroit, Phoenix, and San Antonio. Hopefully this years Shooting Stars will be much better than last years, where Team Detroit won by default over Team Chicago. Following the Shooting Stars, is the Foot Locker 3 Point Shootout, where Toronto sharpshooter, Jason Kapono, will look to defend his crown against: Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Detroit's Richard "Rip" Hamilton, Phoenix's Steve Nash, Cleveland's Daniel Gibson, and New Orleans' Peja Stojakovic. Finishing off the night is the most popular, biggest fan favorite event, the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Competing this year are: Reigning Champ, Gerald Green, from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando's Dwight Howard, Memphis' Rudy Gay, and the lone rookie, Toronto's Jamario Moon.
For some reason, this years Dunk Contest, is looking to be very exciting. With video's of Toronto's Jamario Moon's practice, Rudy Gay asking the fans for help, and Dwight Howard's desire for avenging his early exit from last years contest, we should all expect a dunk contest to NEVER forget. Now, enough chatter, here are my, predictions for the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.

Rookie Challenge MVP-Rudy Gay-F-Memphis Grizzlies
Playstation Skillz Challenge-Chris Paul-G-New Orleans Hornets
Haier Shooting Stars-Team Phoenix(Eddie Johnson, Amare Stoudemire, Cappie Poindexter)
Foot Locker Three Point Shootout-Steve Nash-G-Phoenix Suns
Sprite Slam Dunk Contest-Dwight Howard-C-Orlando Magic
All-Star Game MVP-Dwight Howard-C-Orlando Magic

Well there we go, I have Dwight Howard taking home 2 pieces of hardware, Chris Paul blocking Wade from a 3rd Skillz Challenge Championship, and Steve Nash taking the crown from Jason Kapono in the Three Point Shootout. Hopefully, All-Star Weekend is as good as I hope. Look back later for more All-Star weekend posts.
